Ottery St. Mary: Artwork Process
The process shots shown here depict the approach taken in creating most of my artworks. I alternate between analogue and digital drafting methods. Starting with a scaffold which can be CAD drafted or drawn, I start off with a rough idea for the image that progresses as it goes through drafting periods. The approach taken is to really consider the form of the image and craft something with depth that can then be reduced to its most simple tonal, textural and stroke components. I use no more than three colours and often no more than one in an image.
This process of refinement has been developed in conjunction with the screen-printing process and is focused on developing informationally dense work that can be delivered in as few screen passes as possible. For this Folklore series, I wanted to develop work that was reminiscent of etchings and engravings that would incubate with my modern working processes to echo the evolving visual Arcadia Iām creating. I printed letterpress type that was digitised and made a part of the positive output for the artwork titles across the series.
